The largest of the miniatures (20 cm diameter) getting the final adjustments. The smaller ones are about half this size.
With more than 300 crystals, the Met-Chandelier resembles the satellite Sputnik or a “starburst.” The 1:5 scale miniatures are exact in their shape, materials, number of individual parts and price. “A simplification of the structure of the chandeliers was not possible without changing the essential aesthetic details,” says Johannes Rath, head of the Chandeliers department at Lobmeyr, and grandson of the designer Hans Harald Rath. To create the smaller version, even the tools had to be adapted. “It was particularly exciting to see how the tools and devices used also shrunk to the same extent,” reports Johannes Rath. “And as a finishing touch: The largest crystal of the miniatures is cut from the smallest crystal of the originals.” Both, original and miniature size chandeliers are handcrafted at Lobmeyr’s workshops in Vienna.
