Casimir has been making furniture for a quarter of a century. He is a true craftsman who likes to work with his hands in his studio. This is noticeable in every piece he makes, which possesses a combination of solidity and sophistication. However, it is not furniture as such. His pieces are wilful in shape and design; he creates strange objects and plays with their identity, giving them a gender. Casimir rethinks the history of furniture; similar to what a poet does with words, he does with furniture. For the exhibition, 15 new works are presented, a series of basic objects in which robustness, ecology, and honesty play a central part.
Exhibition, Galerie Valerie Traan, Gent, Belgium, until 18 April.
