Citizens and Borders

Exhibition, MoMA, New York, US.

Until December 1, 2017
MoMA has launched a digital exhibition of works from its collection by artists who immigrated to the US, often as refugees in search of a safe haven. Spanning a period of nearly 100 years, a range of disciplines is represented – painting, sculpture, drawing, photography, performance, film, design, and architecture.
As the issue of immigration has become ever more central in current public discourse, it is important to realise that the flow of ideas and people with varied backgrounds and experiences has been a consistent driver of innovation and creativity. Indeed, the history of modern art is one of global turmoil, migration, and transnational exchange.
