New Designers 2018
Graduates from across the UK gather to showcase their work to press and public
New Designers returns this year, bringing graduates from around the whole of the UK to London's Business Design Centre in Islington.
The show has become known for being the one-stop-shop for accessing the most exciting and promising designers from the UK's astounding number of design schools, including Kingston, Northumbria and Leeds College of Art.
As with every edition, the show is split into two. Week 1 includes textiles, fashion, costume design, surface pattern design, ceramics and glass, jewellery and contemporary crafts. Week 2 features product and industrial, furniture, spatial and interiors, graphics, illustration and animation design.
In addition to the 3,000 students on show, New Designers also aims to promote those who have previously presented – giving them a platform named One Year In.
Here, designers, studios and entrepreneurs who have recently launched their own businesses have been selected by exhibition curator Rheanna Lingham to present their latest works. They can also sell directly to the public at the fair.
The event also includes talks and awards programmes. Awards will be judged by a panel of industry leaders, including interior designer Sophie Robinson, design writer and curator Max Fraser, Kenwood CEO Mark Welch, Prime Warden of the Goldsmiths’ Company Michael Prideaux, Chairman of Wilko Lisa Wilkinson, Joseph Joseph CEO and co-founder Richard Joseph and more.
Talks will be delivered by professionals from the likes of The Dots and Kickstarter.
New Designers Week 1 takes place from 27 to 30 June, while Week 2 begins runs from 4 to 7 July.
Tickets start from £7.50 and are available online.
