Ryoko Aoki and Zon Ito at Yamamoto Keiko Rochaix Gallery
Works by the contemporary Japanese artist duo go on show in London
Contemporary Japanese artist duo and couple Ryoko Aoki and Zon Ito have undertaken a residency at the gallery throughout August, exhibiting the resulting work in a show curated by Hikotaro Kanehira.
The poetic show will centre around paintings, embroidery, small objects and video installations with the artists incorporating found objects sourced locally.
"The artists’ works have references from both traditional and contemporary Japanese culture. While Zon Ito is known predominantly for his embroidery work, Ryoko Aoki creates installations from works on paper and her collection of found objects," – Keiko Rochaix Gallery
The two artists’ works fuse and produce synergy with depth and complexity. The exhibition will touch on the issues of psychological development and the character-building process of young children, making reference to the child psychology analysis by Kiyoshi Oka, a well-known Japanese mathematician.
