Christopher Kurtz deconstructs an iconic 18th Century chair to further examine each of its elements
Patrick Parrish Gallery in New York presents its inaugural solo exhibition by Christopher Kurtz.
Throughout the exhibition, Kurtz has drawn upon the iconic Birdcage Windsor chair from the 18th Century, extrapolates and reimagining its features and decorative sections to create separate monumental objects.
"Amplified from traditional furniture ornamentation into conspicuous forms on an architectural scale, Kurtz creates sculptures whose subject, like furniture, is shifted back to the human figure," – Patrick Parrish Gallery
Sculptures of Furniture is on show from 6 September to 13 October 2018.
