Alligator Tees
Lacoste has teamed up with the Campana brothers on its fourth Holiday Collector Series that goes on sale in November. Fernando and Humberto Campana have created a range of polo shirts based on their Alligator Chair formed from cuddly, piled-up, reptile toys. Philippe Lacoste, grandson of the tennis player René Lacoste who founded the sportswear brand, actually bought the Alligator Chair four years ago.
The Campanas have designed a white polo shirt with an embroidered cluster of eight crocodile logos. There are also two limited editions of 125 pieces each. The men’s model was inspired by the Anavilhanas islands on the Amazon, while the women’s model was inspired by the Lianas vines that grow in tropical rainforests. A “super limited” hand-made edition, available in 12 pieces, recalls the lace work in northern Brazil. Each shirt features around 3,000 hand-sewn crocs and necessitates around 100 days' labor.
The limited and super limited editions are produced in cooperation with Coopa-Roca, a sustainable development organization in the Rocinha favela of Rio de Janeiro that provides work to local craftswomen and seamstresses.
