Daniel Rybakken

Designer for Luceplan

June 2017
Again this year, Luceplan presented products by Daniel Rybakken at the Salone del Mobile. The designer has already gained the Milan-based company two Compasso d’Oro awards — one in 2014, with the Counterbalance wall lamp, and then in 2016 with the Ascent table lamp. At the 29th edition of Euroluce, it introduced the Sol 03. Blending technological innovation with impeccable aesthetic refinement, this is an evocative lighting solution halfway between design and art.
“The Sol 03 project is about making a pendant lamp that occupies a large physical space with a minimal physical volume, for easy orientation in the room. A translucent white film or a metallic mirror membrane is stretched inside a circular aluminium profile. Like a solar sail, an incredibly powerful light source projects a beam of light onto the large, almost weightless disc, either diffusing or reflecting the light. Thin rods connect the two main elements together. By altering the length and the connecting points of the two supporting wires, the rotation of the disc can be set at any angle.”
