Jaime Hayón for nanimarquina

February 2018
Among the new releases for nanimarquina at the 2017 Salone del Mobile, we saw the dreamy, wild, humour-filled collection by Jaime Hayón, celebrating 30 years of activity by the Spanish brand. The Madrid-born designer created the carpet collection using the hand-tufting technique, which involves a manually operated pistol injecting pieces of wool. ‘With this intuitive technique, fluid lines are achieved, as well as an organic composition. We can reach a definitive and faithful reproduction of the original sketch,’ reveals the designer. At first glance, the surface seems a chaotic tangle of colours and shapes that invade the rug. However, after looking carefully, the rich visionary iconic world of Hayón takes shape: turtles, lips, hands, stools, fish, half-men, half-birds...’To evoke smiles, vitality, a joy for life...’ in the words of Hayón. The elements have been distributed in such a manner that the rug can be observed from different angles, and the square model has been specially designed to hang on a wall as a tapestry.

DAMN°66 Materials presents products that are the new generation of products. Says Productivity editor Patrizia Coggiola about the Suprematist trend:

"Monumental patterns and proportions that recall those historical avant-garde researches for the pure form, where the perfected polished geometries were applied on huge scales. A vivid visual power, creating paintings or sculpture-like elements that one could enter and live in."
