More Trees Stool

Jasper Morrison and Wataru Kumano have designed Stool celebrating the 10-year anniversary of More Trees.

September 2017
Launching at Maison & Objet in Paris from September 8 to 12, the More Trees Stool is an easy to assemble knockdown that comes in three sizes. The Single, Double and Long all feature a gentle curved form made of warm touch of solid wood. The curves are intended to give rhythmic expression to linking space with function - a stool can be a seat, a side table, a shelf, a TV stand or planter, both inside and out, in the bedroom, kitchen or bathroom.
“This Stool is all about distance. Human, product, and space would naturally connect with pleasant distance by the friendly shape and pure hinoki material,” say designers Jasper Morrison and Wataru Kumano. Connecting users with artisans, designers, the environment and space, Stool is made of hinoki wood from Higashi-Shirakawa in Gifu where one of the More Trees Forests is located, and made manually by local artisans in the area. It is known for having a good scent and a good strength as material.
More Trees is a forest conservation organisation founded in 2007 by renowned composer and musician Ryuichi Sakamoto. With an overarching concept 'Connect Cities and Forests', it promotes forest restoration in Japan and abroad. It also works on the production of designed products to utilise Japanese timbers.
"Don’t be fooled by short-term fashion items, choose things for life!"
