Designer and Founder at Nendo
Japanese designer Nendo created two new lights for Flos, Sawaru and Gaku. The first fixture consists of two independent cylinders touching each other at right angles. One plays the role of light source while the other acts as a base, and the projection angle can assume three positions: 25 degrees, 40 degrees, and 60 degrees, by inserting a pin attached to the base. Gaku, on the other hand, is conceived as a box containing a lamp and other objects. Bowls, vases, a tray, a mirror, and bookends are held in place with magnets. An assortment of accessory-like lighting and lighting-like accessories makes combining the two simple, as if you were casually rearranging the interior of a miniature room.
