Swimming in circles

Some 40 years ago the French government embarked on a plan to build 1000 pools across the country in order to improve upon their poor performance in Olympic competitions to date. One of the four models that was built in numbers was termed the Tournesol, or sunflower. This rather flamboyant domed structure housed the standard
size pool and featured a massive sliding door that let the sun shine right in.
