Carlotta de Bevilacqua, Architect and Designer
“When you face a lighting project, there is always an ethical aspect to it. Light is like water and air for human beings and nature: we cannot live without it. Designing a lamp is not just drawing a shape but taking care of energy efficiency and lighting performance to better people’s lives, answering to their needs and desires. For me, every lighting project is a balance between the technical dimensions and an anthropological approach.” The goal with the lamps Carlotta de Bevilacqua made with Artemide over the years was always to create a long lasting, durable, easy-to-maintain object. “I do not believe in style by itself, but in sustainable, innovative projects with great quality behind them.” Empatia, her new lamp for Artemide, is a marriage between traditional blown glass and the company’s expertise in LED technology. “We create clear, bright objects and, thanks to their artisanal production, they seem different from any other. Empatia is like an optical machine with a high-performance LED heart.”
