Urban Shade in Israel
Exhibition, Design Museum Holon, Israel, until 31 October
Urban Shade extends from the Museum’s gallery spaces to its surroundings, with the subject being the experiential element. An interactive installation is displayed in the centre of the ground floor gallery, inviting visitors to plant trees and erect pergolas in a defined ‘urban space’, receiving immediate feedback as to the degree of change they have brought about. A study on shade in Israel, a documentation of its absence, and ways to study it, are also presented in the gallery. The social implications of the interface between shade and its absence and social life in Israel is the focus of the exhibit in the upstairs space, with an installation that simulates walking in an abstract urban space, exposing social and urban issues.
