by Giulio Vinaccia & UNIDO (United Nations Industrial Development Organisation)
Designer Giulio Vinaccia and UNIDO (United Nations Industrial Development Organisation), who were featured with their Madagascar Tsara project in DAMNº48, have been awarded with the prestigious Compasso d'Oro for using design as a development tool in their projects, and for supporting local handcraft in various developing countries in the world.
Another recent project by Vinaccia and UNIDO is Creative Mediterranean, which links design to social and politic topics, and involves 14 production handcraft clusters based in 7 southern Mediterranean countries (from Lebanon to Morocco). The project uses creativity and design to create resilience in countries where terrorism and migration are serious issues.
