Creative with DAMNº
For this series of collages, American graphic designer Jeff Brush used images found in specific issues of DAMN° magazine. He was recently introduced to the publication last year when he joined Studio BAR in Amsterdam. Brush found DAMN° to be a "wonderful source of imagery, full of interesting textures, colours, and subject matter".
The start of Brush’s working process involved choosing a variety of pictures from different issues and then sifting through them to identify specific visual relationships. What most excites him about this method is that he doesn’t start with an end product in mind but rather allows the selected images to dictate how the composition is formed. “It tends to be a long (and sometimes painful) process, but I know I’m on the right track when a good sense of visual balance and tension is achieved. This approach very much reflects the way I enjoy working as a graphic designer. I like to take my time and investigate the nuances in the images; creating collages allows me the opportunity to do that.”
