Biennale of Sydney
Art fair, Multiple venues, Sydney, Australia.
This 20th edition explores themes relating to the future. Visitors to Australia’s largest contemporary art event are invited to engage through daily guided tours, artist and curator talks, lectures, performances, workshops, salons, reading groups, and gatherings held across seven venues, or ‘embassies of thought’. Manymany vibrant projects occur simultaneously. A trio of happenings focusing on performance take place throughout, including a lecture by 20th Biennale attaché André Lepecki, a one day salon exploring choreography in the gallery context, and a mini symposium presenting reflections on performance at the Biennale itself as well as in the wider field. There’s also a three day live work that acknowledges the spectator’s unique presence without asking them to do more than watch, and a performance that invites participants to be a part of a 75minute temporary community, reshaping our perception of the other.
