THE GREAT BIG ART EXHIBITION

Anish Kapoor, 2021
From January 28, 2021 until May 7, 2021
Leading artist Anish Kapoor has chosen the new theme for The Great Big Art Exhibition, the nation’s largest ever exhibition, led by Firstsite gallery in Colchester. From today, the artist is inviting people across the UK to be inspired by colour and create an artwork to put up in their front windows in a celebration of creativity to counter the gloom of the pandemic.
People are encouraged to download an activity pack created by Firstsite, which is full of activities and inspiration from leading artists, including the colour inspired activity by Anish Kapoor, and draw, paint, sculpt, build or create an installation to show in their front windows, on their front door, balcony or in their front garden.
The Great Big Art Exhibition is a call to the nation to create a work. Leading artists from Firstsite's downloadable activity pack are choosing a different theme each fortnight. Artists supporting the project include Antony Gormley, Sonia Boyce, Etel Adnan and Simone Fattal, Tai Shani, Jeremy Deller, David Shrigley, Ai Weiwei and Ryan Gander.
