Art fair, Istanbul Congress Centre & Istanbul Convention and Exhibition Centre, Istanbul, Turkey, 13-16 November.
It might be clear, culture is alive and kicking in Istanbul. The booming Turkish economy is accompanied by a growing art market with new galleries and museums popping up everywhere, art collectors from Turkey and beyond increasingly sharpening their appetite for local and international artists alike, and Turkish and foreign artists relocating to cosmopolitan Istanbul which is confirming itself once again as a creative hub between East and West. One of the clear proves of its artistic enthusiasm is the yearly art fair Contemporary Istanbul, which embarks for its 9th edition. This time there is a special focus on new media and digital art, and on art from China. International and Turkish contemporary art galleries fill the 70.000 m2 fair ground. "We want to show the world that we strongly believe in the future and in freedom, and art is an excellent medium for that." The art fair is coinciding with the Istanbul Art Week. Both events are an excellent excuse to come and check out the artistic temperature in Istanbul 13-16 November.
