Living Objects – Made For India, in Grand-Hornu Images, Belgium
Presented here are everyday objects from India as discovered through the eyes of London-based design firm Doshi Levien. Items are gathered from the streets, where the local savoir-faire, especially in textiles, contributes to the cultural identity of the country. The duo has collected objects from foyers, bazaars, and the boutiques that are conspicuous across India. Characterised by great modesty, these are things used in the kitchen, when cleaning, when taking a bath, in prayer rituals, in association with the cult of the gods, marriage and other celebrations. The particularity of this selection and the personal scenographic concept place the objects in a new light.
