Fashion Utopias - Haute Couture in the Graphic Arts Works

Exhibition, MAK, Vienna, Austria.

From April 13, 2016 until September 4, 2016
With the aid of numerous design drawings, ornamental prints, illustrated books, posters, and magazines, this exhibition proves that high fashion and valuable accessories have been en vogue since the early modern period – as is illustrated by plates from the 16th century onwards, as well as by the exuberant fashion plates in the first magazines. As a student of haute couture’s founder, Paul Poiret was one of the first highend fashion designers. During his visit to Vienna in 1911 he made contact with the Wiener Werkstätte, whose textiles captured his imagination and that of various others. The creations of these artists demonstrates their passion for the extremes of utility and fashion utopia.
