Florian & Michael Quistrebert - Light of the light
Exhibition, Palais de Tokyo, Paris, France .

Having produced new works for this occasion, the Quistrebert brothers play with the minds and visions of the visitors, drawing their perceptions toward other dimensions through the mingling of colour, light, mass, and illusion. The pair has staged an eclectic piece of optical theatre in which lights, videos, and paintings create erratic disturbances through the motion of various objects. The works summon the ghosts of Malevich, De Staël, Picasso, (Hans) Richter, and Fischinger, among others, while reviewing the main themes of modern art using contemporary, experimental techniques in association with a particularly personal approach to materials. Their paintings, like their videos, explore the effects of light and shadow, at once seductive, hypnotising, and repulsive.
