Free Wheel

Capo Elite Eis, 1966.

exhibition in Design Museum Holon, Israel, until 22 March 2014
The exhibition presents some 100 bicycles according to four cross-sections: time, content, technology, and design. Occupying all the museum's exhibition spaces and courtyard, and extending to the Mediatheque courtyard, the show is accompanied by a bicycle film festival at Holon Cinematheque, a bicycle school, an international conference on urban planning and bicycles, and the launching of a unique Design Detectives programme. The bicycle has always symbolised equal freedom of movement for all. In the past 200 years since it became established in its present configuration, its structure and operation have remained virtually unchanged; in terms of shape it is an offshoot of the human body, enabling optimal human-powered propulsion.
