The Crime Film
The crime film is among the most popular genres in TV and cinema. Often the plot revolves around the classic question: Whodunnit? The human motivations for committing crime have long been a source of inspiration for many well-known directors, actors, and composers who have often given narratives of theft or murder genuine filmic quality. Making use of both full-length works as well as longrunning or seemingly endless series, the exhibition investigates all: from the children’s crime story to the detective film, and from the contract killer to team crime in which the gangsters are often depicted as appealing figures, examining the ways in which tension and horror are produced in order to manipulate our ambivalent relationship to evil.
