Jan Fabre: Glass and Bone Sculptures
Exhibition, Abbazia di San Gregorio, Venice, Italy.
Presented are Jan Fabre’s works in glass and bone from 1977 to 2017. The artist loves working with the alchemy and memory of materials, and with these pieces he refers to both to the Flemish masters who used crushed bone in paint pigments and the ancient tradition of the Venetian glass blowers. Fabre deliberately chooses two hard materials that are strong but at the same time fragile. He's fascinated by the structural flexibility of human bones and the flexibility in the production of glass.
