Exhibition, Centre Pompidou, Paris, France, until 27 April 2015.
This retrospective is designed to take stock of a body of work that is inseparable from the man who created it. Rabbit came to the Centre Pompidou 27 years ago. The creator of the famous stainless steel balloon has become one of the most controversial artists in the contemporary art scene, one who attracts so much biting criticism that you wonder whether it is actually the work that is being judged or the mythology of a man who has become a figure. The work of Jeff Koons is undeniably an American story, an American dream. A pragmatic, resolutely positive oeuvre; a joyous challenge in a world full of ups and downs; a vision that is certainly playful but more subversive than it seems.
