London Craft Week

Lines of Possibilities - Taiwanese Rush Weaving
From October 4, 2021 until October 10, 2021
London Craft Week (LCW) returns for its seventh edition with a curated programme of events across the capital, showcasing exceptional craftsmanship and creativity from emerging and celebrated makers. Featuring nearly 400 events and over 350 makers from 31 countries, LCW tells the stories behind some of the world’s most beautiful objects. With workshops, immersive experiences, pop-up stores and unique exhibitions it enables visitors to engage with extraordinary craftsmanship, independent makers and leading luxury brands. LCW champions the art of making, from contemporary practices to heritage crafts and endangered skills and this year’s festival spans the fields of craft, art, design, fashion, luxury, food and beauty. It will spotlight innovative materials and sustainable practices, showcase collectable art pieces from around the world and highlight how the pandemic has been a catalyst for creative development and new collaborations.

LCW has been made possible through the support of its sponsors and partners and is particularly grateful to its Headline Sponsors, Serapian and Purdey, who bring their remarkable histories, craftsmanship and design to the festival. Founded in 1928, Serapian is synonymous with excellence and elegant Milanese design, creating iconic leather goods. Serapian is working with LCW for the first time this year to showcase a special collaboration with historic Milanese furniture brand Azucena. They will be presenting a reinterpretation of their famous Catilina chair, enhanced by Serapian’s Bespoke Atelier and their unique Mosaico craft, as well as mesmerising pieces from their new womenswear and menswear collections. Artisans from their Maison will also be demonstrating the meticulous process of handweaving that creates this signature Mosaico style.

Founded in 1814 and the holder of three Royal Warrants, Purdey is a renowned British brand, specialising in country and outdoor lifestyle and pursuits, including the art of gun making. Purdey will be hosting demonstrations at the historic Audley House in Mayfair, which has been the brand’s home since 1883. Experienced craftsman, Tom Nicholls, will reveal the incredible skills and techniques used in the seven stages of gun making including the intricate hand engraving work and complex finishing processes. Leather goods embosser and bookbinder, Bill Manley will demonstrate traditional embossing techniques on leather products and glass engraver, Karl Palmer will showcase the exquisite craft involved in engraving crystal glasses, tumblers and decanters, using the ‘copper wheel’ technique.
