Mudun, Urban Cultures in Transit
Exhibition, Vitra Design Museum, Weil am Rhein, Germany.
In many metropolises of the Arab world, growing urbanisation has resulted in a new cosmopolitan cultural landscape. Baghdad, Dubai, Cairo, and Tunis are instances of such development. All of these cities provide room for critical debates, subcultures, and avant-garde artistic movements. The exhibition critically examines the effects of this transiting process on the people, architecture, and neighbourhoods, both in the region and its diaspora. This project is a collaboration with the creators of Brownbook, who have been documenting contemporary urban culture in the Middle East and North Africa for the past 10 years.
