Nordic Modernist Design
Exhibition, National Museum of Scotland, Edinburgh, Scotland.
Modernist design emerged in the early 20th century as a response to social and technological changes. Design became simplified, clean lines replaced ornamentation, and new materials were em- braced. This small display showcases an outstanding collection of Nordic modernist design donated to the museum, featuring works in ceramics, glass, and jewellery. Assembled over the last 50 years, it features leading designers from Scandinavia and Britain, including Kaj Franck, Timo Sarpaneva and Henning Koppel.
