In every dream home a heartache
As a comment on the instrumentalisation of pop culture, low-budget TV, and the entertainment industry, Phil Collins demonstrates how strategies of popular media can be utilized critically in a different context. At the centre of his work is always the direct contact with people who become the protagonists in his films, photographs, or sound creations. Collins travels to farflung places that have aroused his interest. He then puts adverts in the local newspapers and organises auditions to motivate people into participating in his works. This process, often highly emotionally charged, can be seen as an end in itself. A new work has been created for this exhibition, involving the participation of local citizens and the collaboration of various musicians from all over Germany.
