Sohei Nishino: Recent Works
Exhibition, SFMOMA, San Francisco, USA.
To construct his series of Diorama Maps, Sohei Nishino researches his chosen city, spending up to two months walking and photographing the urban environment, capturing thousands of images of streets, alleys, corners, and vistas from every imaginable angle. In this exhibition, he then prints his contact sheets, cuts out the individual frames, and afixes them by hand onto board, to create a large-scale collaged map that expresses a truly personal interpretation of the featured location. Once the collages are complete, the artist digitally photographs and presents them as large, high-resolution prints. The recent works presented here include a new map of San Francisco made especially for the exhibition.
