Exhibition, Hauser & Wirth, Los Angeles, US.
This illuminating survey by Osaka-born Paris-based artist Takesada Matsutani spans the artist’s career, which has evolved to express the complexities of living between Japan and France. Featuring 34 works from three distinct periods, the exhibition offers an expansive look at Matsutani’s unique visual language of form and materials. His paintings, drawings, and sculptures engage themes of the eternal and echo the endless cycles of life and death, revealing the influence of the ethos of the Gutai Art Association on his early experimentation and its lasting impact today. Also included is a site-specific piece, continuing a long-standing performative aspect of the artist’s practice.
