Ateliers J&J and Jean-Paul Lespagnard
Brussels, September 2020 - During the latest edition of Brussels Design September, which marks the return of the creative world, Ateliers J&J presented new and original pieces as part of a second collaboration between Ateliers J&J and Jean-Paul Lespagnard, founder of the Extra-Ordinaire concept store - a space on which they collaborated together on for its conception.
Jean and his team created a capsule collection combining fashion and design, that are inspired by the use of particular pieces that are commonly used and showcased in and around the Mediterranean coast. Jean explains: “We based our research on a series of constructions with metal frameworks, linking to several worlds. They were the source of my inspiration during a number of trips over the previous 2 years between Spain, Lisbon and Marseille. Even if they are fairly minimalist on the one hand, they are influenced by the Mediterranean and also indirectly by the religions of the region. During these different trips, I visited many churches which also played a role in determining this aesthetic.’’
The J&J signature, with its idea of making furniture easily understandable by the public, allows the appropriation of the pieces by the users. The range is accessorised with floor cushions and wooden ball massage mats that can be found in some French cars.
Beyond the ultra-minimalism of certain pieces, in particular piece n° 5, the collection illustrates a generation marked by a certain aesthetic, a particular palette of colour and even a certain idea of comfort.
