Boris de Beijer and Benedikt Fischer studied together at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam. Since last year they have been working on a series of obelisk-shaped lighting objects, made of a material developed from different kinds of resin and found plastic. Cast in a massive block, the composite is cut into slices and shapes after having hardened completely. Due to the cuts, all sorts of different patterns and drawings appear within the material, and by putting a light source behind it, mysterious shapes become visible, making it look like some sort of futuristic fossil. Their work has been shown at Amsterdam’s Stedelijk Museum.
