Danish company Dinesen sees great value in preserving natural cracks, as that is the most honest way of reveal- ing the beauty of nature of wood and of paying respect to trees and to craftsmanship. The rustic look of the wooden planks often stands in contrast to the refined and flawless spaces in which they are installed. Several showrooms and restaurants around the world have used Dinesen HeartOak in their interiors, e.g. Aesop (Stockholm), Bulthaup (Scottsdale, USA) Noma (Copenhagen), Spring restaurant (London), Nomu café (Tokyo). “HeartOak symbolises our respect for the authentic oak plank” , says Thomas Dinesen, CEO. “Previously, we cut away all cracks and knots — what we had left were some very exquisite but expressionless planks. HeartOak planks are anything but expressionless. They are a tribute to the whole oak tree, of which we preserve as much as possible by using ancient craft traditions whereby natural cracks are locked with butterfly joints in oak.” The company’s most recent project is the Michelin-starred restaurant Kadeau in Copenhagen by OeO design studio.
