Oskar Peet and Sophie Mensen, both graduates of Design Academy Eindhoven and partners at Os ∆ Oos, designed one of the new lights presented by FontanaArte this year. Heliacal is an illuminated totem that contains a great deal of the language of art galleries: the light is altered or completely obscured by the rotation of two discs of superfine glass that recreate one of nature’s most fascinating phenomena, the heliacal rise — the rising of a celestial body just before dawn, and its consequent visibility for that brief instant before the sun illuminates the morning sky.
