Designer for Villeroy & Boch, Gustavsberg
Michael Anastassiades presented a new series of projects, Fontana Amorosa, developed for design gallery Nilufar in Milan. In 2011, he was commissioned by gallerist Nina Yashar to design the famous Lit Lines, and this year, exclusively for the gallery, he has created a unique range of suspension, table, and wall lamps composed of slender structures of red-patinated brass combined with luminous spheres in hand-blown opaline glass.
“Fontana Amorosa is a celebration of light through a collection of imaginary fountains. Sets of trails in the air, merely suggested, become the support for luminous spheres, forming orderly compositions of chandeliers, sconces, and candelabras. More than mere light sources, they become gathering places, places of seduction and meditation. The name of the series evokes the natural spring found on Cyprus, the mythological destination of the goddess Aphrodite who sought refuge from Mount Olympus in order to take the waters and keep her mind and body young and sensual”, informs the designer.
