Rotation system: Ingo Maurer presents design concept "Orbittu" with Plug & Light technology
Munich, May 28, 2020 | Ingo Maurer, one of the leading companies for the design and production of innovative design luminaires, has developed a new design concept with Plug & Light System. "Orbittu" is a wall or ceiling lamp. Its base can rotate on its own axis thanks to the technology of Insta GmbH.The hemispheri- cal housing with lateral light emission reminds of a miniature observatory, to which a rotating mirror is attached via an asymmetrical mount.
Design meets technology
New technologies have always been an inspiration for the Ingo Maurer team. The "Orbittu" is a further excellent example of a symbiosis of design and technology. The dynamic lamp, designed by Axel Schmid and David Engelhorn from the Ingo Maurer team, is connected to a light socket with Plug & Light technology. This specific magnetic connection allows the "Orbittu" to rotate 360 degrees.A small LED spotlight is integrated into the housing, it throws light on an elliptical mir- ror sheet made of aluminium. The sheet is also fully rotatable, catches the light and sheds it on the desired spot - sometimes directly as a spotlight, sometimes indirectly via the wall. This creates soft, indirect light. As the mirror sheet has a shiny and a structured side, the light effect can be individualized. The appear- ance of the lamp changes with every turn. This playful aspect is a key feature that can be found time and again in Ingo Maurer designs.
The Plug & Light system was developed by the German Electronics Technology Centre Insta GmbH.The core of the system is a smart interface using a magnet to hold the energy-supplying light socket and insert (luminaire) in place. The mo- ment the insert is plugged in, the luminaire is ready for operation. "We regard the Plug & Light technology as a possibility to individually connect luminaires to walls or ceilings in small spaces. The standard makes it easy for planners or contractors, which is a great advantage for the industry“, Claude Maurer, Manag- ing Director Ingo Maurer, explains the cooperation with Insta.
