DAMN° has broken the rules this time by featuring a double-loaded article. But so as not to cause imbalance, we have split the theme into two different helpings, the first in this issue and the second in the next! This time round, via interviews with Herbert Gans and Denise Scott Brown, we have gained insight into the roots of ‘urban renewal’ and ‘urban sprawl’ - how these phenomena have come about in the first place and how they have evolved.
