The Essence of Things

December 2013

Brancusi in New York
The work of Constantin Brâncuși is timeless by nature. Encapsulating the essential, it remains independent of any era or movement. This means that its impact can be felt in the same way today (and forever more) as felt 100 years ago, when, by happenstance, it first saw the light of day in New York. Two commemorative exhibitions provide a chance to reappreciate the sculptures that at one time were tucked away in the sculptor’s Paris studio, unrecognised by the art establishment of the day.
