Polyethylene, the most common plastic, is usually not associated with romantic imagery. Berlin based design studio My Kilos has nevertheless reintroduced black polyethylene as a design material in its newest collection called 'Black Stracciatella', and describes it as "white snowflakes in the moonshine of the night."

"We were a bit tired of marble, concrete and other massive stones, so we looked for an alternative," says spokesperson Lea Kaufmann. "Polyethylene turned out to be perfect both as a chopping board for our BREAD BOX, and as a table top for our VVV Table and our BUSY TABLE."

The new collection was launched at the Vitra/Artek store in Berlin in November 2015, and the international launch will be at the furniture fair in Stockholm at the beginning of February 2016 (stand B12:35).

My Kilos was founded in 2013 by Philipp Schöpfer and Daniel Klapsing. The two designers, who met during their studies at the Bauhaus University in Weimar, had founded 45 Kilos in 2007, a studio for customised furniture and interiors. My Kilos was created for the serial production of their most successful designs. Today the studio includes Michael Bernard, Tal Engel, and Lisa Ertel. Their motto is redesign, meaning to reinterpreting already existing designs.
