Andreas Gursky - not abstract

Exhibition, K20 Grabbeplatz, Düsseldorf, Germany.

Until November 6, 2016
New photographic works by the renowned Düsseldorf artist have been created especially for this project and are presented alongside selected earlier works. Lately, Andreas Gursky has been exploring the abstract potential of the photographic medium. From early in his career, abstraction has served as a resource for compositional freedom, establishing the closest possible proximity between painting and photography. Nevertheless, explains the artist, photography is never completely abstract: it is always bound up with the object. The exhibition features the diverse forms of abstraction that appear in the artist's oeuvre. Accompanying the photographic works is a minimalist sound installation by the Canadian producer and DJ Richie Hawtin.
