BMO Harris Bank Chicago Works: Andrew Yang

Exhibition, MCA, Chicago, USA.

Until December 31, 2016
Andrew Yang identifies as a natural historian and uses hybrid methods to understand the cosmos. Rather than using equations, text, or illustrations to layout scientific findings, the artist creates opportunities for visitors to encounter the subjects he himself contemplates, through multiple experiential positions. The exhibition suggests that the galaxy is not something far o ; we live in it, are surrounded by it, are it. A central concern for Yang is our diminishing visual access to the galaxy. He observes that the Milky Way galaxy is our home, but because of nighttime light pollution, it is simply not visible in urban areas, meaning that most humans haven’t visual access to their own galaxy in an immediate, astronomical sense.
