Ettore Sottsass: There is a Planet

Marking the centenary of the birth of Ettore Sottsass (Innsbruck 1917-2007 Milan) is a monographic exhibition devoted to him in the spaces of the Galleria dell’Architectura, accompanied by a book and a catalogue. The title, There is a Planet, is that of a project that Sottsass started in the 1990s for German publisher Wasmuth, but never completed. The project was to form five groups of photographs taken by Sottsass on his travels around the world, each with its own title and essay. The photos would be of architecture, houses, doors, people, and situations involving dwellings and, in more general terms, the presence of humans on the planet.
Ettore Sottsass (14 September 1917 – 31 December 2007) was an Italian architect and designer during the 20th century. His body of work included furniture, jewelry, glass, lighting, home objects and office machine design, as well as many buildings and interiors. Ettore Sottsass worked as an architect with his father, often on new modernist versions of buildings that were destroyed during the war. In 1947, living in Milan, he set up his own architectural and industrial design studio,[2] where he began to create work in a variety of different media: ceramic, painting, sculpture, furniture, photography, jewelry, architecture, and interior design.
