73V by Omer Arbel for Bocci

August 2019
73V is an expansion of the technique used by Canadian light brand Bocci in one of its most popular series, the 73. A pendant lamp, it features oblong shapes with a gradient colour range. Up close you get a real sense of its shimmering qualities, which result from hand-blowing molten glass into a folded, heat-resistant ceramic fabric. ‘The formal and textural relationship shared by the glass with the fabric,’ explains the designer and creative director Omer Arbel, ‘is boosted by the light source, positioned at the top of each pendant, accentuating the volumetric perception of the piece, as well as the gradation of colour.’ The new iterations of 73 have been in development for some time and it’s only recently that the highly technical challenges were overcome. Arbel founded Bocci in 2005 and as creative director fosters a lateral and open-ended relationship between contemporary light design and artisanal skills.
