Gioia by Andrea Anastasio for Foscarini

August 2019
The composition of the Gioia lamp both conceals and reveals the wonders within: a marble structure placed at the centre of a transparent Perspex disk, joined by a single ring, attached to the wall by a small dowel. The two parts are free to move, as in the swaying rhythm of a pendant or an earring. ‘I have always imagined the home as a protective, mysterious divinity. Gioia is a tribute, an ornament offered to the domus. A jewel created to adorn domestic space.’ With these highly personal and lyrical words, the designer Andrea Anastasio describes his new creation for the Italian brand Foscarini. The light comes from a LED wall source, which leaves the decorative element free to move, reinforcing the aesthetic and narrative impact of the object. The transparency of acrylic contrasts with the opacity of Italian marble and its pale grey veins.
